Al the literature I've seen, including the CACM article and follow-ons,
describe worms
independent programs that can use other programs.  Obviously, the worms can't
be completely self-contained -- they have to use the host's memory management
and device drivers!  As such, since this one did not merge with the binary of
other programs, it most definitely is just a worm.
