I just got off the phone with Cliff Stoll a short while ago.
He informed me that all the bridges between Milnet/Arpanet
were shut off last night around 6 and will remain off for
an indeterminate time.

He has heard one off-the-wall rumor from someone at DOE about
being restarted somewhere. He also heard a more reasonable
story that a DOE subcontractor in Virgina discovered
someone breaking into their system with the FTP bug. It was
reported, it went up & down the bureaucratic chains, and someone
at DCA (? DDN?) ordered the plug pulled.

Anyone have a more detailed story (or better rumors :-)?
